An open letter to members
An open letter to members and friends of the FCTA.
As you may be aware this week has been by far the most newsworthy week in the history of the Fraser Coast Tennis Association.
On Monday night we opened our gates, turned on our lights and showcased to the public the four new courts that make up Stage 1 of a three stage plan to deliver a first rate tennis facility to the residents of the Fraser Coast. And on the same day we learned that we had lost our Club Coach, Tristan Brown, to the Mooloolaba Tennis Club as their new Head Coach and Manager. The FCTA management committee is disappointed that Tristan ceased negotiations but has accepted his decision and certainly wishes him the best as he moves on to the Sunshine Coast. We will miss one of our 'Founding Fathers' and will always remember the 'Green Team' and its support of the FCTA throughout the past three years. Several members of the FCTA committee have children that receive coaching by the FCPT, including myself. As with all of the FCPT students and families, we will miss Tristan and are glad to have been able to be a part of his professional organisation for the time that he was here.
Much is being said about the Club, and its Committee, and I understand there are many concerned and disappointed members and friends of the FCTA. Please allow me to make a few points.
- The FCTA AGM for 2011 is being held this coming Tuesday 15 November at 7pm at the Dundowran Hall. Since its inception, the FCTA has met regularly, once per month, advertised by word of mouth, via email, and broadcast on our website www.frasercoasttennis.com It would abe great to see more members taking an active part in the behind the scenes operation of the FCTA. A strong Club is built, in part, on well informed members working together toward common goals.
- Our Coach, Tristan, was named as Club Coach nearly three years ago. As such, once our new facility became a reality we entered facilities management contract negotiations with Tristan exclusively. Therefore there is currently no 'coach in waiting' but the FCTA committee is committed to finding a suitably qualified, professional tennis coach for its Dundowran facility by the start of Term 1, 2012.
- The FCTA committee is committed to continuing to provide first rate facilities for its members. Stage 1 was possible with a hard-won grant from the State Government. It is hoped that a part of that process will be the much needed redevelopment of the 2 bitumen courts, with construction to begin before the end of the year. Shortly as part of stages 2 and 3, grant submissions will be made to deliver 4 more rebound ace courts as well as a state of the art clubhouse, shared with Hervey Bay Little Athletics.
- Over the summer, the FCTA will be holding Monday night social fixtures for all ages and ability levels. 7pm start. Hope to see you there.
- Beginning in Term 1, 2012, the FCTA facility will be fully operational, with group and private coaching for all ages, social tennis, adult and junior fixtures tennis and casual court hire through Foodworks Craignish.
- As President of the FCTA I urge you to continue to support your Club and if you have concerns or issues that you would like clarified, please contact me personally and I will be happy to listen and to explain the best I can in a professional and respectful manner. I can be contacted via email on iwannaplay@frasercoasttennis.com or via inbox on our FCTA Facebook site or via written correspondence to our Club mailing address available on our website.
Thank you for the support you have given us over the years. We'd love to see you at an upcoming meeting as we all look forward to an exciting future, continuing to build our original dream of a family friendly community based tennis club that everyone can be proud of.
Now is an exciting time for our developing club and I encourage you to get involved, be informed, and help make our Club the best that it can be.
Chip Barnes, President, FCTA
